Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!
In Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, lightning is the main obstacle featured in Lightning Lookout. It flashes briefly at the top of the screen, striking a moment later. If the lightning touches Dixie and Kiddy, they take damage, although the Kongs can shield themselves from the lightning through various means. Barrels and yellow Knik-Knaks held by Dixie Kong as well as flying green Buzzes block a single strike, being knocked off-screen after being hit. Red Buzzes are invulnerable to lightning, and they serve as a stable shelter in this regard. If the Kongs are swimming and lightning strikes the water, the lead Kong gets electrocuted.
In Donkey Kong Country 3 for the Game Boy Advance, lightning has the same role as in the original version. One minor difference is that the lightning still attempts to strike the Kongs once they have activated the Level Flag.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
In Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Lightning Bolts return in Frantic Fields with a similar behavior to before. Rather than flashing before striking, a thin column of cyan light marks where it will appear. It can no longer be blocked, and is one of the few things capable of hurting Rambi.
